アイヌ民族はいない？

アイヌ民族はいない？

5年前くらいにワシントンD.C.にロビーングに行った時、グアム選出の米連邦下院議員(ただし投票権はない)のオフィスにも立ち寄りました(彼女は不在で秘書が対応してくれた)。

そこで沖縄から海兵隊8000人をグアム移転すると言うプランについての沖縄側の見解(米軍基地がある故沖縄で起こっている数数の問題ーレイプ、墜落事故、山火事、土壌汚染、飲酒運転、住居侵入などなどがグアムでも起こりうるリスクや沖縄と似たような歴史や立場にあるグアムに移設することは問題解決になっていないのではないかと言うポイント。それからグアムの市民運動の人たちが蓄積したデータ、8000人の兵士に加え家族や基地建設の為にやって来る外国人労働者のためにグアムのインフラ、病院や住宅だけでなく水資源なども不足するということや、先住民族であるチャモロ人がグアムにおいて益々マイノリティーの地位に追いやられ自己決定権を奪われるであろう予測)や、ものすごく美しくて貴重な辺野古の海を埋め立てられ米軍基地が作られようとしているプランについて写真を見せながら説明する機会がありました。

彼ら(白人のスタッフたち)から返ってきたのは一つは「辺野古の写真を見て驚いた、ここに基地を作るなんてちょっと考えられない、私もグアムの人間なので沖縄の人たちがこの海を壊したくない気持ちは分かる気がします」というもの、しかしもう一つの答えは聞くに堪えないものでした。「皆さんチャモロ人とおっしゃいましたが、グアムはチャモロ風味のアメリカなんです、私達はアメリカ人だし英語を話します、沖縄で起こっている様な事件は起こらないと思います」。

ある土地を植民地とし殺戮と破壊と搾取を何世代にも渡りやってのけた上で「グアムはチャモロ風味のアメリカなんです」と言ってのけるグアム下院議員オフィス、「アイヌ民族なんて、いまはもういないんですよね。せいぜいアイヌ系日本人がいいところです」と言ってのける北海道の金子議員、「沖縄県居住者および出身者は日本民族です」と言って退ける日本の外務省。彼らの言葉を問題視することなく受け止めてしまう圧倒的多数の植民者たちがいて彼らを前にして民族を名乗ることさえ嘲笑されてしまう私達がいるということです。金子議員のこのツイートを受け「アイヌ民族よ立ち上がれ」と、もし「もう一方の当事者」である日本人が考えたとしたらそれは植民地主義を維持するパワーにしかならないのではないでしょうか。この場合最も大切なのは日本人が立ち上がり金子議員を批判していくということなのだと思います。

「植民地主義を辞めよう、脱植民地化を生きよう」と言った場合、植民者たちが「被植民者の人たちガンバレ！」と考えるならそれ自体が植民地主義であり、それを維持するための栄養素になってしまうのだということ。植民者が植民地主義を脱ぎ捨てない限り植民地主義は終わらないのだという誰でも分かるこのシンプルなお話に未だ「シランフーナー(知らないふり)」を決め込むアメリカ人と日本人がいる、と知念ウシさんは分析しています。日本の皆さん、もうそろそろこういうことはやめにしませんか。もし貴方が日本人であれば、金子議員の発言に対して何かアクションを起こして下さい。それが貴方の脱植民地化の一歩となることでしょう。私も沖縄人の脱植民地化の実践の一つとして金子議員に抗議のメールを送ろうと思います。一緒に頑張りましょう。

民族」はまだ存在しているみたいです。

「純粋の」という言い方に、やや違和感を感じるのは私だけ？
